Why are you scared to move to Puerto Rico? Just curious.
My mother and one aunt live in Florida. Mom lives in Tarpon Springs (Gulf Coast - a sleepy little nothing town near Clearwater/Tampa/St Petersburg). Aunt Kathy lives in Boca Raton (east coast - an hour outside Miami).
Personally Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Key West are the only places I can stand in Florida. The rest of it really stinks big time. Mom says she eventually wants to move to Miami Beach; I completely support the move.
Ft. Lauderdale has a cute drag scene and actually more gay clubs than Miami/South Beach, but I still prefer Miami/SoBe, especially during March when the Winter Music Conference happens. It's so much fun then. Miami still has that sleazy appeal - I hope it never loses that quality. I'll probably be down there for it this year.

well lex it was because everytime i asked friends that live there if it's safe, i wouldn't get an awnser. you can't walk at night. many friends have been mugged, someone is always telling me of ways not to be mugged. the last straw was a friend who grew up there and told me it was to dangerous. i really thought about it and decided not to move there. i will visit but i don't want to live behind barbed wire and gates.
southern florida has always been a favorite of mine. i holiday there often. i can tell you i'm not going for the night life though.

i went down to ft. lauderdale last week and had a really nice time. enjoyed great weather and very friendly people. i will have to go back in a week or two to look at apartments. i had a couple good walks in victoria park and wilton manors. both are nice neighborhoods i could see myself living in. the guest house i stayed in allows small pets so i will be taking gordito with me next time.
as we flew over NYC on my way home, i looked out over the city and felt no emotion for the city, it was the first time i didn't get excited to see the skyline. i really am ready to leave.

I lived in ft lauderdale for a short time and met so many people that have become lifetime friends. It's a great place to live and work,(and play). I think you will enjoy the change from NYC. I still love New York but I don't get goose bumps like I once did!

I'm surprised by the Puerto Rico stories. I never would have guessed it could be that bad down there. I've always had a great time in Ft. Lauderdale and Key West. Used to hear alot of good things about Miami, but have never made it there to go out. Sorry to hear you'll be leaving us, but wish you the best.

Having left nyc a year ago I can say that there are times that I miss it but mostly I am thrilled to start a new life in a beautiful place. Good luck Michael. Stay in touch. Love, Bobby
