well, gays and feys... there's something to do in houston this weekend. (believe it or not.) one of florida's most popular breakbeat dj's is passing thru our fair city... DJ BABY ANNE(we'll overlook her name, dears.) this friday night @ HYPERIAfollow the link for info. also, i found there's a good time to be had sunday nights @ SOUTH BEACH. it's tres gay... but hey! since la strada burned down (thank goddess!) it's the best place to end your weekend with a dose of shake ass. gets goin' at about midnight, stays open til 4. (nancy - tell sammy jo i had him on my mind sunday night when they played the "club remix" of "and i am tellin' you..." burning hot!! and daddy - i thought of you as i went out to the parking lot with antonio - salvadorean GOD.)

Hi Honey,
Yes, I live in Texas (currently Austin, formerly Houston), but travel far too much on business, which is why I'll be back in NYC on Wed 2/13.
Re Houston, two very dingy but fun places are Cousins (on Fairfield) and E.J.'s (on Ralph Street), both in the Montrose. Cousins has drag on Thursday through Sunday (check out Kara Dion and Christina Ross, call first to see if they are appearing that night) and E.J's is a friendly little bar full of friendly people (and strippers).

howdy tina... thanks for posting. i didn't know about cousin's but will check it out. is it on fairVIEW or fairfield?? and e.j.'s is my fave of the gay bars... a veritable whorehouse featuring boy hustlers and tranny hookers. really!! the boys walk around in their underwear and will tolerate hands ANYWHERE so long as there are dollars in those hands. any other tips for houston?? and feel free to post about the austin scene. i know i would love to hear about it.

You're right honey. Cousins is on Fairview.
For after hours (BYOB) in the Montrose, I recommend Insomnia. Good DJ and nice dance floor. All the t* girls go there after the regular bars close at 2 AM. Don't you just hate that Texas 2 AM closing time law?

yes!! the 2 am close really breaks into a good time. but i find that those extra two hours i spend out in new york really ruin me the next day. i can still make it into work when i leave at 2... but i digress...
just wanted to let y'all know that the rodeo is in town here in houston. friday night i'll be going down to the astrodome for some ridin' and ropin'. that night's featured performer?? MARY J. BLIGE!!!!!!!!
the way the rodeo concerts work is pretty sick... they turn out the lights and play the hard luck awards - video from last night's rodeo where the cowboys really take a beating. the audience rules (by applause) which cowboy got his butt whooped worst and that cowboy gets two free airline tickets. then they play some sappy shit... past years have been music videos to "hometown houston" and one in memoriam of slain houston cops. if i had to bet... this year will have something to do with 9/11. this is all done to distract you from the large round stage being towed out to the middle of the dirt arena and set up in the middle... a good 50+ yards from the first row of seats in any direction.
now it's showtime... the announcer comes on... "ladies and gentlemen... MARY J. BLIGE!!!!!" a spotlight hits a pickup truck in the holding pen that starts its trip around the arena with mary j. a-ridin' and a-wavin' in the back. the truck pulls around and backs up to the stage, she steps up on to it, starts the show, and the stage rotates around.
home sweet home.

That's wild! Sweetie had a rotating stage for the Cheez Whiz Xmas pageant. It made it really hard to remember my lines! Seriously, Gobs, we want a full report on any backstage rodeo she-nanigans. Yee-haw!

Latino Fan Club had a party called "Lazy Susan" They built a gigantic one and put a girl on it and partied Latino Fan Club style. Of course this is what they told me. It could also be a big Latino Fan Club Fantasy! But with those guys I believe it. What do you think Hattie? Real?
Just a Thought: I'd like to build a big lazy susan. Tie Niki & Paris Hilton to it. Then spin it around with their cell phones (ringing) just out of reach.

hi everyone...
wow! what a picture. i totally fell in love with lizzie from the minute she started warming-up in the basement when she heard her song ("talk to me") being played on the floor. she didn't hold back.
as far as any backstage shenanigans go... not much to report, 'cept for that i was in HEAVEN as i walked to the rodeo carnival in a crowded sea of sistuhs. sayin' that this would be a lot better with some "hen" or "alize." three times i got shout outs that someone had seen me dancin' during mary's show. i just smiled, laughed, and kept on struttin'.
my friends backed out last minute... so i was left with three extra tickets. two went to the girls i met on the parking lot shuttle bus - ayisha and rashaunda. i saved the last one for pinto.

i can't get ANYONE to go to cousin's with me. is it that scary??
in other houston news... we're in the last weekend of the rodeo. i've had to come to terms with the fact that i LOVE it. i realized i even know the order of events.
will houston in february become a stop on my gypsy/faerie pilgrimage?? if so, i might as well tack on carnival in new orleans. hmmmm....

No, Cousins isn't scary. You're definitely going for the entertainment rather than the decor. The building is very plain on the outside, and the interior is just like any other Texas honky-tonk (big bar, bar stools, pool tables, lighted beer signs). It's interior reminds me a lot of Parkside Lounge. (I just saw Sweetie's ChesseWhiz show again 2 Sundays ago when I was in NYC.) It's the drag entertainers that make it special, and the high number of T* girls in the audience on the weekend. I recommend parking at the florist across the street on Fairview. They don't usually have anybody there collecting for parking on Thursday or Sunday, and it's only $5 on Fri and Sat. Good lighting and very safe. From Cousin's, you can walk to almost anywhere else (South Beach, Ripcord, Montrose Mining Co, etc) and I mean walking by Texas standards, not those long distance jogs like in NYC. If you go, say hi to JT the security guard and Larry behind the bar.

I worked alot in Texas in the late 80's in a bus and truck show and we would always eat at this genius restaruant just around the corner from this totally hideous in the fiercest way queer disco called Heaven. The food was delish. Is it still around?

sweetie... if you were here we would step over to baba yega for brunch this weekend and sit on the deck under the big live oak (our state tree) and kick back a few bloody's, mary. it's still around.
as for heaven... it went up in flames not too long ago and has since reopened as "south beach." just like it's predecessor - it's hideously gorgeous. and GAY GAY GAY!!! that's where i like to spend my sunday nights on the dancefloor 'til 3 am. (or until somethin' better cums along.) soundtrack favorites: stevie's POTU remix (you won't forget, you won't forget...), the house remix of "and i am telling you (GENIUS!), an anthem called "everyday" (i think - that one really gets those boy pussies moving.), and "rapture" by iio.
the fagoons here are so strange. very preppy, very nelly, even though they consider themselves "straight acting." they wonder whether or not I'M gay. can you imagine????

It seems as if I had some sort of rotten gay sex with a cowboy out by some quarry outside of Houston. But it could have been Dallas as well. (God Bless Magic Mushrooms) All I remember is he only referred to me as "NEW YORK" and had chewing tobacco juice in the corners of his mouth. YUCK. And I thought he was really butch until he pulled down his levi's and he told me to eat his man Pussy. DOUBLE YUCK. But he did drive a pick up truck.
