My suggestion would be Ciro's. Though it closed in 1957, it was the scene in the '40s & '50s. Think Sammy Davis Jr, Frank, Dino, Bogie & Betty, Lana Turner, et al. It was also the site of Paulette Goddard's infamous under-the-table BJ, though I doubt if you could get away with recreating that at the Library! The Mocambo and the Trocadero were also hotspots, but if I am not mistaken, they closed at the start of the '50s.

May I begin by saying how nice it is to be in NY, and maybe we should think of a clever new subject to disect sp? As for locations in LA, I know there are a few maybe downtown, and the person to ask would be Billy, he was allway's scouting locations for Beige.I can also ask around Mother Darling, Sister D was kind enough to take I to the symphony to hear Chopin's piano concherto #2 and Berlioz's symphonie Fantastique. One word DIVINE... Judge Hatchett! had the pleasure of seeing Amy Goodheart at this little resteraunt/bar in Brooklyn called Black Betty, she sings with a jazz quartet, and it's all classic blues and jazz, and the musicians are excellent.I am preparing for my show on Tuesday.Looking forward to touching you all...

Via email quote: From: "Dante Hill" Subject: Misster LA - 1st Annual Drag King Pageant Date: Wed, 17 Jul 2002 19:18:20 -0700
From the Desk of The Lady Dante
Hello Everyone,
I am The Lady Dante, part of the Los Angeles Hedwig and The Angry Inch Party http://www.rainbowcarnage.org/index1.html
Our function is held the last Friday of every month at the Laemelles' Fairfax Theatre at 7907 Beverly Blvd. in L.A. Those of you who have seen the Play or Movie or both, know that the role of Yitzhak, is a Drag King role, originally played by Miriam Shor.
As I myself am a Drag Queen, I loved to see the inclusion of the other branch of the Artform of Drag. Everyone has seen a Drag Queen but not every one has gotten to see a Drag King.
So, I thought it would be fun to bring to the stage something that Hedwig fans would love by opening our next show on July 26th at Midnight with the Mister LA - 1st Annual Drag King Pageant.
Sashes would be awarded to the "Most Suave", the "Biggest Stud", and the Title of "Mister L.A." being awarded to the Drag King who is Best Overall.
Please do contact myself, or our producer Trace Ferris if you are interested in attending or covering this event.
Thank you, The Lady Dante www.RainbowCarnage.org

PENNY ARCADE'S "NEW YORK VALUES" Where: The Knitting Factory, 7021 Hollywood Blvd. When : Friday November 8th (two shows, at 7PM & 8:30PM Press Contact : John Pantie, 323-463-0204 x 118 Reservations: 323-463-0204
Penny Arcade... Where have you heard that name before?
Perhaps you are a Warhol film fan and you saw the teenage Penny Arcade in what many consider Warhol's most successful film,"Women In Revolt", now available in DVD. Before "The Vagina Monologues", there was its secret history: Penny's epic feminist sex and censorship show "Bitch!Dyke!Faghag!Whore!", which opened in 1990 and spearheaded the sex-positive feminist backlash of the time. After two years in New York's East Village, the show ran for a year at New York's legendary Village Gate before touring for three years as an international commercial hit. Also pre-dating "The Vagina Monologues" was her Kill Rock Stars release,"A C*nt Is A Useful Thing". Being a seminal influence is a bitch!
Maybe you encountered Penny in the pages of Legs McNeil's "Please Kill Me: The Oral History of Punk", or in "High On Rebellion: The Story of Max's Kansas City". Perhaps you have read Penny's poems and spoken word monologues in the groundbreaking anthologies "Verses That Hurt", "The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry", or "Out of Character: Monologues from Today's Top Performance Artists".
Perhaps you have seen one of Penny's other groundbreaking shows, from among the 10 plays she has written, at The Edinburgh Theater Festival, The Vienna Theater Festival, or The Adelaide Theater Festival in Australia. Was it at the ICA in London, the Olympia in Dublin? Berlin? Zurich? Sydney? New York?
It seems Angelenos always pop up in the audience at Penny's shows around the world, but now, for the first time, Penny is bringing her dynamic performance energy to Los Angeles.
For one night only, in two performances at Hollywood's Knitting Factory, Penny will perform her solo version of "New York Values", a hit at Edinburgh's 2001 Theater Festival, which earned her the rarely presented Herald Devil Award from The Scotland Herald for groundbreaking performance.
"New York Values" is designed to give Los Angeles a peek at Penny Arcade's unique and much imitated performance style. Don't expect the "Vagina Monologues". As Penny puts it, "My vagina does not speak. Nor does it have a favorite color, nor does it wear a funny hat." What you will get is hysterically funny and astute social observation, extraordinary character work, and a magnetic performing artist who respects the audience's time and intelligence. She creates a transformational experience in theater. "New York Values" is for everyone who loves New York and the complex tapestry of art, criminality, rebellion, and iconoclasm from which the great tradition of Bohemia is woven.
One thing is for sure: In a Penny Arcade show, theatre is what happens between her and the audience.

This just came in the email. How I wish I could be there! ### The Great niece of the original Bricktop performs along with 22 year old retro vaudevillian Mr. Uncertain, Vaginal Davis and Special Guests (LOS ANGELES) On Tuesday, December 31st, New Year's Eve. Due to overwhelming demand The Parlour Club's Andrew Gould, and drag provacateuse Vaginal Davis present the return of Bricktops! at the Parlour Club, 7702 Santa Monica Blvd in the Russian Quarter of West Hollywood. Once again Bricktops will provide culturally starved Angelenos a chance to revel in the splendor of Jazz Age Café Society Paris, Weimar Berlin, and even indulge in their Algonquin Roundtable fantasies. For intelligent club goers tired of Electroclash, and the mainstreaming of Punk and Hip-Hop, Bricktops offers a startling and true alternative. The style and allure of the 1920s has created a new retro 'flaming' youth movement and sub-culture, that is ripe with wit, whimsy and subversion. Find out for yourself what all the fuss is about before its purity is co-opted by the three-horned penis of the multinational corporate entertainment beast. At 11pm and 12:30 (sharp) Bricktop will perform along with Mr. Uncertain, Vaginal Davis and special guests. DJ's Aveda TaLoo, Bernice Bobsherhair and Pelinor Glynn will spin Les hot jazz nuggets, Tin Pan Alley favorites, curios and other naughty surprises. $10 cover, 21 and over. Appropriate lost generation attire encouraged and the password to gain entry is "Nazimova". BRICKTOP: Born Ada Beatrice Queen Victoria Louise Virginia Smith in a small town in West Virginia. Dubbed "Bricktop" because of her red hair. Came to Paris in 1924 and became the queen of the nightclub scene befriending legendary figures like Josephine Baker, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Langston Hughes, The Duchess of Windsor and Cole Porter. Her great niece also known as "Bricktop" has performed in international touring companies of such hit musicals as "Bubbling Brown Sugar" and "Ain't Missbehavin". Coaxed out of semi retirement to take over the reigns of this latest incarnation of Bricktops in Los Angeles. VAGINAL DAVIS: Is a ghetto androgenue, writer, performance/conceptual artist and composer. Most recently she curated along with Ron Athey, Platinum Oasis; a live art event that was part of the experimental section of Los Angeles' Outfest Film Festival. In Spring, 2003 is the world premiere of her new performance piece "Orifice Descending" as part of the Opposite Sex Festival at the Centro Cultural De Belem in Lisbon, Portugal. In June, she curates along with Athey and tours Birmingham, London, Glasgow, Amsterdam, Hamburg and Copenhagen with "Visions of Excess - A Tribute to George Bataille" as part of The Fierce Festival. Her first novel Mary Magdelene will also be released late next year on Bloomsbury Press. www.vaginaldavis.com # # # For More Information about Bricktops at the Parlour Club Call 323-650-7968 www.parlourclub.com or email Gleeson Brevard at: gleebrevard@aol.com

1) Bobby Trendy 2) Steven Spielberg 3) Melissa Rivers

Honey baby, so delighted to see you here. Last night your name was on alot of lips at the party we did, especially musty and daddy!
You are and will always be the king of the title, the tag line and the caption (And hope you saw that RIP VIP is the name of a very important topic here, duly credited of corpse.)
So I would be grateful if you could duck in the Clubs We've Loved forum at some point and read the "Help Us Rename This Forum" topic and perhaps give your 2 cents - I KNOW you must have something great.
Love to Annie and all our other transplanted friends. We miss you!!

I am off to adventure in LA on Jan 31-Feb 10... Was wondering if anyone had any other tips or advice or treasures to find that werent posted in this here, thread? I esspecially enjoyed Princess Ra's elegant virtual journey. Armen, you are beyond words for a perfect piece of art. Wow. I hope my trip is just as Lush. I am doing a few shoots and a few shows... But I want to know the parties... I couldnt get enough of those amazing LA club kids pics. Paul Rubens is one of my biggest influences...As far as performance. Nothing gets me more excited than that insane use of color and that air of endless FUN! I dont even know where to start when I get there... So any suggestions? Please? XOXOOX

DO check out Bricktop's on Fridays. The link is through Vaginal Davis' above. Any club that pays homage to Louise Brookes has got to be amazing. I will expect a FULL report.
