I just returned, pretty drab! Don't waste your time on the lame Studio 54 or the other pricey places. I hope you have better luck than I did.

The kink with Vegas is that the whole city is a kind of TV. I mean, it is a roadside stop in the desert that took it upon itself to turn itself in to an extravaganza. Somewhere on the Mboards there was a discussion of an annual trip of TV's to Vegas. The discussion contained info that would be useful for you but now I can't remember where on the boards it is located. One place you might check out is the Riviera Hotel at the south end of the strip across from Circus Circus. The Riviera bills itself as the 'adult alternative' (since the competition up the strip is that weird Vegas hybrid of squeaky vulgarity). The Riviera has good old fashioned floor shows very much cabaret style, La Cage, for example, and just straight out stripper reviews. The theater spaces are appealingly tacky too, one completely upholstered in zebra skins. It's olde Vegas slightly redolent of the Rat Pack not the Disney-goes-Playboy vibe further up the strip. You could probably run in to some habitues of the Riviera who can point you in even better directions. Whatever you do try to hit the Liberace Museum.

I haven't been to Sasha's but have heard it is a great club with wild live music shows. Although I seem to have heard the live music shows may be discontinued, the patrons of the club are supposed to be a very hip crowd with a lot of out of control antics going on so it sounds like a good place to make hot local connections.

Gipsy is the largest gay dance club in Vegas. Sasha's has changed owners as of May and is now called Tramps. It still has the same basic drag shows most nights with live bands once in awhile. I do like what they have done in moving the stage area and shifting the seating area orientation. (I was there 3 weeks ago.) Both are very friendly and fun.

Some people like the FreeZone, although I'm not a big fan. (All of the above are in the "Triangle" where many gay clubs are.)

For more on the edge nightlife, go to the Las Vegas Lounge on Karen Ave. This is a more hard-core tranny bar (TV/TS topless dancers, tranny chasers, etc). Think Edelweiss - only smaller and darker.

Seven mentioned the Liberace Museum. In that same strip shopping center is a fun little gay bar called Goodtimes - kind of like the gay Cheers. Monday night beer bust gets very crowded with a lot of college students, other nights are much more relaxed with an older crowd. Lots of fun on Wednesdays at karaoke with Eric.

The annual T* week-long party that Seven mentioned is called Diva Las Vegas. Info at http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv. Unfortunately, you just missed it (we usually have it in May), but we hope we'll see you at that in May 2004. Meanwhile, a lot of the girls who go to that come out to LV several times a year, so if you keep up with that list, you'll hear about when other girls' trips might coincide with yours.

Christopher-- OY. so what did you think overall?

I've been a few times [for work, luckily, not paying my own way], and apart from the casinos, which are a blast for maybe a day-and-a-half, I find Vegas to be a TOTAL BOOOORE! Odd, too, considering all of the homos there and all of the "creative" types who do contribute *some* fabulous false glamour to the shows, etc. Why is this town such a dried up pit?

I enjoyed myself in vegas but I guess not in the usual sense(of course). I got what I expected which were buffets, cheap booze, discretion at a tranny club and cool stuff to photograph.I was just glad to get out of here.
Have you been to san francisco?Where do you recommend?
