The Saturday-night MASQUERADE BALL crowns the festival with performances by Gothic Bard VOLTAIRE, the fabulous St. EVE, Empress of Ceremonies CHI CHI VALENTI, DJs XIAN (Los Angeles) and AENGEL (New York) and other delights including a DARK COSTUME CONTEST with cash prizes, absinthe bar, GOTHIC WEDDING CHAPEL and of course the fabulously strict dress code.

We'll also be attending New Orleans' OTHER fabled Vampyric event, also back with a bang this year:

We are SO excited to be going and will def have much reportage, I am sure! Two back-to-back nights of full-dress Vampyre balls should be major, even for us lifers..

So wish I could be there this year as well. I hope y'all have a grand time!

I found this pic from my very first trip to NOLA with Jonny Tingle Halloween 1998 - Chi Chi looking gorgeous and Tingle looking truly demonic!

xo

I remember, Chi! I went to eat one night at Galatoire, the waitress asked me where I was from.
When I said "New York" she started petting me and crying!

I was crying so hard too it almost stopped me from drinking my oyster cocktail... they shuck about a dozen+ oysters and fill up a water-glass... you literally guzzle 'em all down.

The venue was gorgey that year, too - the Wax Museum.

You asked me recently and I'm wondering, did you ever find Diego? Is he still in Metaire...

The "Endless Night" party was great!
The Wax Museum is a perfect spot for it S'tan.

I don't want to start any vampire wars or anything but the "Anne Rice Party" should take a few pointers from the "Endless Night Party".
"Endless Night" was sexy.
There was a great DJ (DJ Angel) playing loud music -not an i-pod playing music that you could talk over...
and there was dancing!
and beautiful un-dead topless go go girls!

I liked the "Anne Rice Party".
People looked great and were having fun but "Endless Night" was sexy.
The ironic thing was that "Endless Night" was something out of an Anne Rice vampire novel.
I expected Lestat to swoop down any second.
And Voltaire was perfect.
He did a crowd pleasing 20 minute set that was just perfect.

The "Anne Rice Party" had bands (that were very good) but just went on forever and ever and ever!
And when the bands weren't on there was this guy in a plaid shirt on stage reading off numbers to door prizes that apparently no one wanted because they also went on forever and ever and ever.

Again, I don't want to start any trouble but I hope the "Anne Rice Party" people went to the "Endless Night Party" and got some ideas.

Now back to my coffin.

SUCH a great five days in our second home - town very PACKED with black-clad, dreaded, pentagram-draped music fans for Voodoo (the annual music fest that is once again HUGE), adorable Vamps and Anne Rice lovers for the two Vampyre balls, and then, as always, The Gays.

Everyone in a great mood, cash registers ringing, lower decatur street festive and costumed. Back To Life..

The Endless Night was perfection - I am really proud of my vampyre son - it is not easy to pull off an event that has lost two years of momentum, but he (and his clan including the lovely Sasha and hard-working Archer) did just that.

Best quote from the weekend:

Todd, introducing one of the Anne Rice Ball organizers from stage:

"And Lady A, who proved that Anne Rice people and Vampires can get along..."

Such a genius concept, when you think of it!!

Bella Morte ( the young designer and gothic burlesquer) was married at the ball to her Sweetie Eric in a voodoo ceremony. The officiant was the often-on-TV Voodoo Queen of New Orleans - Bloody Mary. The ceremony was riveting, and Bloody Mary reminded us so much of Stevie.

Afterwards in the dressing room, I was telling her how much we enjoyed the ceremony and she said - "Chi Chi, you don't remember me, but we met years ago. I am really good friends of Kitty Boots from London and then New York. I moved back to New Orleans in 1993, but have such great memories of that club you all had in the Meat Market...What was the name?"

Nice to have a voodoo priestess in the family, just in case, n'est-ce pas?
