Go and visit this tiny jewel of a SM club. The crowd isn't skanky and the staff is really nice and friendly! Tell Mistress Nina that you heard about the club from Ted n Di

I just discovered this page about Amsterdam, and i do know a lot indeed (some things i wished i didn't too..lol) I never went to Europerve myself but i hear its great too. If you want more fetish events you can check Absolute Danny and look for the events page. every three months there is a smaller more intimate fetish party called the Clinic (about 600 people) but i suggest you mail them for tickets a long time ahead if you plan coming over cause these parties sell out in a flash!

We dont have a real big drag scene here, although i guess its pretty safe to walk on the street at night all dressed up. I myself always go out by bike (even with very short skirts) and have never been in any trouble before. In the last 5 years i only heard once that someone was harassed.

Anyway i would love to keep you udated if you like, or if you have questions, ask me!

Danny produces the Europerve event, so she is an excellent person to talk to.

Also check out obsession circle cafe.

Danny is absolutely one of the nicest people to meet, she looks very domme but in real shes just very kind. I met her a few times briefly at parties. Usaly all the people there are dressed in rubber or latex (Danny herself is always dressed in the most fabulous outfits you can ever imagine) but since i dont have a lot of fetish clothing i just threw a little sexy schoolgirl outfit together and she kept coming back to me telling me how sweet it looked and that she liked that for once there was someone not just dressed in rubber.. lol

I never been to the obsession circle yet, although its right on the corner of where i live.. oh well...

I will be in Amsterdam soon for a few days and would appreciate any advice my fellow Motherboarders have to give on the nightlife there. In particular, any drag clubs? Also other good dance clubs, recommended male brothels and bath houses, etc. Thanks in advance!

I booked a package deal to amsterdam in january a few months ago...a real deal but I just found out the hotel I'm staying at The Delta City Center is a real dive. The reviews I read about it are harsh...stolen watches, extra charges on their credit card and scuzzy rooms.Too be honest I cant wait!!! My question to someone is have they had the same experience in amsterdam and what can I do to protect myself? Is there a room tax for real?
Is there a website that I can find out where the clubs are and what is the gay part of town called? Has anyone tried the mushrooms what kind are good what aren't? I really appreciate any info.Thank You

Lexx,

What was your experience???

Well Chris, you get what you pay for!

Actually I found Amsterdam to be lovely and quite civilized. Charming and beautiful. The best thing about it is the gorge architecture and the pot. Stop into a hash cafe and have a space cake, tasty!

There are several small gay-friendly or gay-owned hotels I recommend: ITC Hotel, the Golden Bear or for the leather/fetish minded, the Black Tulip (slings and bondage hooks in every room!). All reasonably priced. Fancier mainstream hotels I recommend are the Hotel Vondel and the American Crowne Plaza Hotel which has a great all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast and is near the Van Gogh museum.

Sadly there is very little drag in Amsterdam, which shocked me. I went to one drag-themed restaurant called 't Sluisje (www.sluisje.nl) that was very tiny but fun with campy shows. The queens I spoke to there mentioned some tranny/chaser bar but I didn't bother to go as it sounded Edelwiess-ish by their description. Can't remember the name of it though.

Amsterdam also features the most beautiful bathhouse I've ever visited, but I suppose you're not interested in that!

I only went to a couple of big clubs: Exit and the Cockring. Exit was cute, the Cockring was okay but had good strippers when I was there.

Lexx,

Thanks for the information unfortunately I can't change my hotel since I already paid for the package but I will keep it in mind in case I can afford an upgrade but I doubt it.If you can think of anything else let me know I'm not leaving till january 16th.
DO you remember what the hotel charged you for room tax?

Christopher

Ps. How long ago where you there?

I really don't remember, hon. I'm not a big penny pincher. I just remember there was no discrepancy between the cost I was quoted by the hotels and what I actually paid.

I last visited Amsterdam in late November 2002, a little over a year ago.

The squeeze is being put on the pot cafes again, much like it was several years ago when there were over 1,000. The local government has taken a slightly more conservative bent and they are trying to reduce the number of cafes even further. But I don't think the move will last. It has squeezed many establishments to move out and open up closer to the German border. An unignorable amount of tax and tourist dollars comes from the pot business in the Netherlands so it is not likely to end any time soon.

People forget Amsterdam is not a mega metropolis on the scale of NYC or London, it actually has a more provincial feel so the nightlife amenities are just not on the scale and variety that one may be used to in a megalopolis. The architecture and art are probably its best features. Another example of this might be Basel -it only has about 300,000 people, kind of like going to Minneapolis except again the architecture and art, the civility and openness really make it so pleasureable. But you can't beat the legislated liberalization of things that here in the US are stamped on as being vices -sex and intoxicants. It really permeates the scene in Amsterdam and makes it feel so much more relaxed.

Lexx,

Ok I'll deal with it.I guess I am a bit of a penny pincher but when you travel by yourself theres knowone to split the cost with you so thats why I wind up staying in shitholes...but I'm not complaining.I consider myself lucky just to go someplace else.....that's of course if I dont blow my money in nyc.

Seven,

I've been hearing about the crackdown on the cafes I heard they were even going through with a smoking ban after january 1st...I've read articles online saying that yes it will happen.I consider this my last chance to see amsterdam before it turns into new york.

Wow. That's pretty bizarre. Is it a ban on just cigarette smoking in public places or on ALL smoking, including pot? If the former, how will businesses differentiate when they see a customer lighting up? I can't imagine a pot-smoking ban would go over well there. Like, duh. As you said Seven so much of their economy relies on it at this point. The college kids from around the world don't go there for the canals, honey, as lovely as they may be.

Amsterdam really is a small town though. In some ways it's easy to forget that because their attitudes about sex and drugs are so sensible and world-class. But you can walk the entire length of the city in 20 minutes.

Lexx,

Do a google search for smoking ban amsterdam, netherlands and it will lead you to a few web pages that discuss the issue. The ban is for smoking in general not for any specific kind of smoke.I think what they are saying is they will still sell pot but you have to smoke it outside the cafe.I asked a dutch person on a plane from amsterdam to berlin two weeks ago and he told me yes that was the case and it will be in effect after the new year.Maybe that's why I got a deal but who knows where it can go from there.I want to catch it while I can and maybe I can find places that are not complying with the rules just yet.
