I know when one has a physical health crisis, though it is absolutely essential to have those who care close about one, one is ultimately alone with one's discomfort, pain, and the immediate, direct challenge to overcome. This aloneness is where one meets the choice to relent or persevere. I have no doubt whatsoever you will advance through the measure of this aloneness to be whole and well just a short time from now.

It saddens me to hear the news of your brutal attack - however it is a reminder that we must always be vilgilant against homophobia no matter where one lives... I am writing you from Warsaw, Poland which I came to support the Polish LGBT here in their march this past Saturday against a homophic and dangerous government who seeks to oppress them. We Americans still have much work that needs to be done at home too and the vile attack upon you in NYC underscores that fact.
