Dear Kevin:

We have all been silently lurking in this topic watching the amazing outpouring of love and support unfold and wish to lend our voices and our wishes, our thoughts and our prayers for a very speedy recovery, my dear.

Listen to Mother Juan's advice. We don't need more hatred. But we do need more love. The most hopeful thing to me is that those who
have hate in their hearts will feel the love being send to Kevin and it will open their hearts a little bit. That a seed will grow in them towards understanding and peace. Then perhaps one day we will all be treated with love and respect.
Kevin , I keep you in my thoughts and prayers and I imagine you perfect and whole
and most surely you will be soon.

I remember the first time I had ever heard of Kevin. It was 1997, and his video for "Din Da Da" was playing at Angles, Oklahoma City's big gay dance club. At first, I was annoyed that the acapella part of the song had interrupted the steady house beat we've all grown used to, but it was early in the evening, and the Banana Republic queens had not yet finished ther amaretto sours, so no one was dancing yet anyway.
I thought, who the fuck is that? This fabulous bald black man in a purple dress, without a wig or boobs, not quite female impersonator but definitely queer. I was thrilled!
I've followed your career from this seemingly remote outpost out here in Oklahoma, and I was seriously disturbed and upset when I learned of your attack. People expect gay-bashings to happen here in the Red States, not in West Hollywood or the East Village or London. It angers me that there still is nowhere that is totally safe for us, not even places we've come to think of as our turf.
I want to wish you the very best - a speedy recovery, emotional healing, renewed purpose, emboldened energy, and really good pain pills.
When those boys beat you, it felt like they beat all of us.

I am deeply saddened and disturbed that something like this can still happen. I live in the midwest and saw the story on the Yahoo headlines.
In these moments of chaos, with your live having been so violently disrupted, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I have complete faith that you will come back from this better than ever. Please don't let your spirit be broken. Through this crime you have become a beacon of hope in our fight against hate, bigotry and violence. You will come out on the other side of this a true hero.

Bless you and may you have a speedy recovery.

Zach

So sad to hear about Miss Diva Kevin Aviance and those meathead jerks who beat him up and those cowardly passersby and witness who didn't do something to help Kevin. And it happened in NYC of all places! Then again the entire world has never been kind to the LGBT folk, especially now in this moment of our national history. At times I feel like Daffyd in Little Britain (funny show, it's on DVD or BBC america if you wanna watch)--like I'm the only gay in the village, but I know that all of us if we are trully pissed off about this should combat any kind of hatred or bigotry wherever we can find it in this country and in this world, whether it be against blacks, trans folk, gays and lesbians, women, men, and so on. I feel realistically that I'm not the only gay in the village. There are so many of us and if we remain complacent and don't speak out about this and talk about it amongst ourselves and with people we know that feel comfortable enough to talk about it with, hopefully the attiudes of the people in this country will change, and hopefully for the better. I live in CNY, but through my love of theatre and music and poetry I remain alive and and I've had a great time listening to Kevin's music, and that's why I'm so sad that this happened to such a fabulous individual. Keep on keepin' on, Kevin. You'll rise above this and you'll be back in those fabulous shoes of yours! And to the rest of you, I wish you love and positive energy.

Kevin Darling,
I'm glad you're out of the hospital, and want you to know you've got a nurse on call if you need anything! You are in my thoughts in any case, and I hope to see you out and dazzling us with your starlight soon. I'm sure you've got a lot of support, but please call on me if ever I can be of service. i hope kevin heals.

i am wondering if there is a place to go in the NYPD or the city when trans people can go and get help when they are being harased by these horrible people. Is there anything in place to stop gay bashers when they are just walking down street screaming at some wonderful woman that she is a guy??

hope that made sense,

harpgrrl...read through the sizzling topic Queers are the Blacks of the 1950's!!! Anti-Gay is on the RISE! in Got Issues? that Sweetie started some weeks back. There is information on Anti-Violence Project (AVP) who organized last week's protest march, as well as safety and action tips on who to call, how to handle yourself. First and foremost, though...be aware, and try ensure that you're not out walking around by yourself (especially if you're dolled up and gorgeous - an unfortunate reality these days, but necessary).

Ages someone saw me out one night in drag and called me "the white Kevin Aviance". I was flattered, but of course we all know there is only one Kevin Aviance. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and can't wait to see you out again tripping the light fantastic in 4" platform heels!

Yes, there is definitely a Kevin fund.

I don't know the details because I'm too cheap to give anything but I know other people have.

Your one desire then acts with ours,
as in all light, so in
all forms.

Let all wills move together
in your vortex, as stars and planets
swirl through the sky.

Help us love beyond our ideals
and sprout acts of compassion
for all creatures.

As we find your love in ours,
let heaven and nature form
a new creation.

Unite the crowd within
in a vision of passionate purpose:
light mates with form.

Create in me a divine cooperation -
from many selves, one voice,
one action.

Let your heart's fervent desire
unite heaven and earth
through our harmony.

Your one desire then acts with ours,
as in all light, so in
all forms.

---excerpted from The Lord's Prayer (King James Version (Syriac Aramaic-English translation))

WORK Kevin Aviance!!!

I just left Kevin a little while ago.
He still hasn't read all your posts and good wishes yet but when I told him how many there were he started crying.

He's such a baby!

I'm sure he'll be on soon.
He looks good, a little thin but good.

I am sorry for my late response to this thread.

I may be living in a sort of vacuum nowadays. I don’t really know Kevin, I don’t really know most of the girls here at Mothers. But it still makes me cry on the inside anytime I hear that a t-girl has been hurt, especially by thugs.

I know all too well the bashers that lurk around NYC. I have met them on quite a few occasions, with painful results.

I hope all goes well for Kevin and he is in my thoughts.

Love
Babette
