Here a description of the show from writer/performer Jennifer Joy Pawlitschek:
...a romantic comedy with themes drawn from quantum physics and cosmology...
"The Physics of Love" is an original, solo theatre play which uses the story of our universe to explain the high comedies and hard struggles of romance.
I have a passion for science. This passion has led me to study what is becoming known as “the universe story.” This is the account, from a scientific perspective, of the birth and development of the universe, from pre-Big Bang all the way through the formation of earth and the evolution of life on earth. This story is drawn from many branches of scientific research, including cosmology, quantum physics, astronomy and evolutionary biology.
As I’ve studied, it has always seemed to me that this story is at its core a love story, and can best be told through that lens. So this romantic comedy's dramatic arc is framed entirely by the birth and development of our universe.
The main character of this piece, “Lisa”, uses the universe story as a sort of spiritual or philosophical lens through which to understand the world, and especially love. For example, with all the games people play when they're dating, love has about the same chance to emerge as matter did in the early universe: 1,000,001:1,000,000. Explanations and metaphors for the vagaries of life and love appear throughout the universe story.
Whether love is hard or hilarious, this amazing story reflects back to us who we are, and who we are striving to become.
