I posted this on Complaints.com about my problem with Fed Ex... There are ALOT of other complaints like mine concerning thievery and refusal to honor claims.

Complaint:
My mother passed in December 2007, and I was staying at her apartment in Washington DC packing her things.
I prepared nine (9) boxes of her personal items, listed everything that was in each box, and placed a value on each box. The original claim totalled $1800.00

I used my Fed Ex shipping account #, and after I left town my Aunt made the call to Fed Ex and received a Tag Number for the 9 boxes. I have been billed for 9 boxes on this Tag Number.

At the end of the day on December 26, 2007 an apparent Fed Ex employee arrived and took all nine boxes and gave my Aunt the nine receipts. He did not sign his name to anything, nor give her any other receipts than the carbon copies on these nine.

The next day, December 27, SOMEONE called in and CANCELLED the Tag Number. When you cancel a Tag Number, this effectively CANCELS your pick-up. So SOMEONE it seems had decided to steal the entire shipment. Normally a pick-up on December 26th would have gone out or been registered on the 26th. My shipment went out on December 27th.

This difference in the dates of pick-up and shipment have been used against me to discredit my claim of a thievery, don't ask me why! Anything they can use to worm their way out of it.

After I only received 8 boxes instead of 9, I went through the circles of HELL with Fed Ex on the phone. I was put on hold and disconnected several times. I told them a hundred times I had no tracking number and that seemed to settle it for them. I was crazy and didn't know how to count past eight to nine.

Finally when someone told me the Tag Number had been CANCELLED, and that I was "lucky" to have gotten 8 out of 9 boxes, I spoke to someone in Fraud.
They passed me to Lisa Harber in the Phoenix Customer Advocacy Center. She helped me put in a claim for the lost/missing/stolen ninth box.

I was also informed that there was "no such driver" named Christopher Ganzer or Ganser! This was the name the alleged driver in Washington DC had given my aunt. IT'S A FAKE NAME! They have no-one by that name working as a driver. He did not sign off on ANY boxes.

The 8 boxes I received all had had the original receipts/shipping labels I had filled out TORN OFF and another type of receipt stuck on, with legitimate tracking numbers. However these tracking numbers had NO RELATION to the original receipts/ tags put on the boxes.

I filled out a claim, sending copies of the original receipts I used, contents of boxes, etc. The claim was denied because "our records indicate that FedEx never took possession of this shipment." That's the whole issue! The box may have been lost or stolen, but it was definitely missing.

When I called back to dispute this, the same Customer Service Advocate who had been working with me, Lisa Harber, passed me on to the Claims Dept.

This Jack Matias then proceeded to treat me as I had been treated during the entire ordeal. Like I was a lying idiot.
Asking me if I was "sure" there had been nine boxes (why they think treating a customer like a child who can't count is effective, I don't know.)
When I told him the name of the alleged driver, all he could say is "There's no-one by that name working for Fed Ex." When I said that this was evidence of FRAUD and THIEVERY -- and what about the Tag Number being called in and cancelled, he had NOTHING to say.

The general attitude they presented to me was that I was mistaken on all counts, and that my Aunt is a liar or screwed up. She is a meticulous person (a school-teacher, who told me ten times that she and "Christopher Ganzer" counted the nine boxes five times!)

This rip-off driver, realizing the wrong type of labels were used, apparently decided this made it a piece of cake to steal the entire shipment. But after opening a box and seeing girly thing like scarves, underwear and shoes decided the shipment wasn't worth his crime, and relented. I guess I AM lucky I got the eight boxes! I could be sitting here with NOTHING left from my mother's apartment.

Why would I waste hours and days of my time just to collect $300., which isn't even the real total value of the box? Their attitude is totally reprehensible. According to them I can't prove that the box ever existed, and they refuse to take my word for it, or look at the bits of evidence there are, concerning the reality of the missing box. (Nine boxes on the original tag number; a cancelled tag number by someone claiming to be me; a fake name from the driver.)

I'm cancelling my Fed Ex account and I will never NEVER use them again, and I would urge anyone who is mailing valuables to NEVER use them. You won't even get your insurance claim.

That is so fucking scary. Glad you at least got some boxes.

A side note: I love the names of call handlers... Lisa Harber. It's so Deb Farmer, Nancy Isla, Larry Purdy. Where do they get these names???

Wow!
Time to bring out the Voo Doo doll S'tan.

BTW S'tan
(And this has nothing to do with the topic of course).
I was walking home from the gym Friday night in the rain and I saw this girl approaching. I could have SWORN it was you. I was excited. Then as she passed I saw that it wasn't you. I walked a bit (like for 20 seconds) and turned around to have another look and she was gone!
The rainy street was empty.
I looked up and I was standing in front of the old "Whip Shack" on 23rd St.

Weird.

Were you astro projecting Friday?

This Fed Ex story is awful but I sort of hate to say I am not suprised... meaning that nowerdays companies just don't give a shit about anyone. There's very little "customer service". It's sort of like society there's very little accountability that people have. I am so sorry to hear about this S'tan, terrible I think it's always the squeeky wheel that gets the oil thesedays so if I were u I would make as much noise about it as possible. Is there a local news like NY1 that you could approach even. It's sad to say but being a loud pain in the arse crank seems the only way to go to get - SERVICE.
It's like the airlines etc.

One think I do use allot is American Express - they seem to have major accountability for items purchased etc. When your luggage is lost on a airline Amex will chase it for you for days with updates, whereas the airlines just give me the run around. An amex have the return policy that they will pay for items that a store won't return if u no longer like them etc (up to $300) I just did this with a pair of reading glasses I bought for $200 that I ended up hating.

Hope you get your stuff back.

Don't get me started about the airlines. Having just flown to the west coast and back I remembered why I will not fly domestically ever again except in emergencies. What a total and complete nightmare.

As for Fed Ex, we use UPS at the shop. They are incredibly helpful in recovering lost packages or refunding when it's their fault.

As for American Express BAH! They not only charge us a merchant fee when we sell to customers, we also get charged by them when a customer returns an item.

Lately the sight of the Cape Cod delivery truck
brings joy to my heart as it means the hot studly horny delivery guy who brings our wholesale packages is going to show up with a big package all his own. The last time he was in the store, he walked up to the counter to get my signature on the delivery form and sat his cell phone down , open, on the counter with a video of him jerking off in his truck WITH sound and moaning. I glanced up from signing the form and he said " Oh..Now how did that get on there?" wink*

Another day in Problemstown. Oh Hons.

In answer to your ? pretty I think it was random because some of the other boxes were @ $500. and the rest were $100. But
I think the driver planned to steal everything.
(But like I said once he saw dozens of antique handkerchieves and baby clothes, which were the worse things to lose, he probably thought it wasn't worth it. I'm so glad he missed the sterling silverwear!)

My aunt loves to babble and probably gave him some idea that it would be easy. Either because I am in N.Mex., or because someone had died. Whatever, he gave that fake name, then didn't sign off on anything. The we have to assume he was the one who cancelled the Call-tag number.

The 3 examples of fradulent behaviour should have made FEDEX pay off the insurance at least.

Anna, in the past I had used AMEX to pay the FEDEX charges -- but in 2005 when I was moving, TWO TIMES they charged me TWICE for everything, and the mess got so bad I had to cancel my AMEX. I kept getting a bill for nonsensical amounts for 6 months after that. It might have been fucked-up-FEDEX, but anyhow AMEX is one of the worst companies around. They jacked up my interest rate to 32% during the so-called 'investigation' because I didn't pay the double-charges. Of course their idiocy then affects your credit rating.

As per me walking along 23rd Street, Daddy, it is completely possible... Friday I had a very weird day, awake for 30 hours, my phone had ghosts on it and people would call and they could hear me and I could not hear them.
I didn't feel like I was all here. Some of me was there, it seems.

jeez I guess Amex r shite like all the other companies.... I only luv em lately as they helped me get my luggage and paid me for my drama...then recently also paid me back for an item I didn't like which the store wouldn't take back (gucci reading glasses over $200). SO they've been fab for me this wk... But granted all these companies are shite.

I have to say that Amex phoned me one lovely September morning because my payment was one day late. That was on Tuesday September 11, 2001, just a few minutes after the first Tower fell. I told the caller that I didn't know what kind of bunker she was in, but that she should turn on a TV or radio immediately. Shortly thereafter, I cancelled my card.

It sucks though, having to go through the loss of what can seem like the only thing you have to hold onto from your loved one. Hope things start looking up for you.
