Thanks to Sundance Channel and Alan Cumming and Midnight Snack, two weeks ago I saw Pink Flamingos again (sorry I don't have the DVD, bad boy, spank spank and am eating my doo doo because of it--not really) and last weekend Videodrome was on---(really messed up--the lesson here is reality TV is bad, and that Debbie Harry is fabulous!

Ah, the cell phone's, annoying in any theatre!

Recently saw it's all Gone Pete Tong on DVD, about a DJ that was addicted to noise, booze and cocaine and became deaf. I'm thinking that it's not a true story but it's fun. Not the being deaf bit, that would suck not to be able to hear anyone or anything, especially music.

And on Sundance Channel, thanks to midnight snack I saw Vampyros Lesbos, so cheesy and sixities in a good way, I guess you could say it was camp.

Josh,
I moved your "Brokeback" topic here.
"Brokeback Mountain" was mentioned on page one but no one seemed that interested.
Let's try again.

From Queen Josh:

ok, i know this topic is late by like, a year. but who gives a fuck, i searched the motherboards and didnt even find a topic mentioning it so...here we are. this was a damn good movie although very heartbreaking, being a queen from a rural place (Benson NC), i can sort of identify with the setting of the film. does anyone have anything interesting to say about this wonderful film?

I still haven't seen it Eek

I did read Annie Prouix's story in the New Yorker though and have to say that it is a brilliant piece of writing. There is not a spare word in it. And just found out that Larry MacMurtry wrote the acreenplay.

I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain either. I saw this funny pin that said 'I was a gay cowboy before it was trendy." Thought that was worth a laugh, and I did. I really want to see Running With Scissors. I haven't read the book but it's on my "list of books to read or reread."

I thought I was the only one who hadn't seen it.
I don't like movies like that.
I don't mind seeing two cowboys kiss, I just don't like love stories.
I know I'm stupid but I don't.

But...
I did see this this genius parody of it by Carlos Mencia and Mario Lopez called "Wetback Mountain". It was about these two Mexicans who have this "special friendship". You see them flirting and carying on etc at the office. They do the whole thing, "I can't quit you". etc. It gets really hot when they are eating a burrito and Carlos has some sour cream on the corner of his mouth and Mario licks it off. Then they leave their wives etc. to meet out in the desert for some carring on. It cuts to the desert where you see them doing a Mexican folk dance, drinking tequila, breaking a pinata etc. Their big secret is that the are both big wetbacks who love their culture. They laugh and say, "Do you theeenk anyone knows at the office?". "No pendejo, they all think we are gay".

It's very funny. Here it is on You Tube.

That's hysterical! You are led to believe that they are gay, and they're just....Hispanic! That's genius!

OK so am ranting about a movie I have never seen as I wonder if anyone here HAS seen it. Am just listening to This American Life (NPR show avail on itunes podcast now!) episode "Rerun". The first segment is all about A Beaver Trilogy. Sounds like a fascinating movie/Doc. Just totally off kilter - Sean Penn, Crispen Glover and drag Olivia Newton John and a strand of a real doc.
Read on...

Anyone seen it? It's not avail on DVD/video or theatrical anymore!

Children of Men - Alfonso Cuaron has my vote for director of the year with this amazing film. I was worried it would not live up to the hype but.. I was so impressed with the long shots that never seem to end. Clive Owen is perfect and the cinematography was flawless. Love Michael Cain as the pot smoking hippie friend too!!. My only problem was with the music that came too soon and was a bit much sometimes but really was impressed with the level of stress Cuaron was able to maintain and the simple yet effective ending. loved it.

God Grew Tired of Us

I just got back from checking out the doc. God Grew Tired of Us. If u only see one movie this month....go see this.

For those that aren't familiar with The Lost Boys.... in the late 80's 27,000 Sudanese boys had to flee the civil war in their homeland, since the government had ordered mass slaughter of all boys in south sudan. The spent ten years together walking for days and seeking refugee in UN camps. The hardship they have endured is unimaginable. This is a documentary about some of them who were offered the chance of settling in America.

It's a beautiful depiction of integrity, nobility, love, honesty and solidarity. The 'community' they formed in these refugee camps although dehumanizing somehow created a more civilized society in some way than that what we have in the Western world. This documentary showed men who really cared about their community, their fellow man, their survival and justice for others. This passion for the struggle of others prevails once they are in America. The younger boys who came lost that passion as they became more 'Americanized' which totally gave me a re-adjustment of mindset and made me really see again what REALLY IS important and not what the Western world feeds us that is important. The apathy and ignorance of most people just chasing the $ to 'better themselves' which now just means buying more stuff, buying more bling or getting some kind of recognition as a success without giving back one bit to your community or fellow global man. In the western world there is no senes of duty to each other.. no empathy and even less trust than what they had in the refugee camps.

Anyway, I could rant on.... just go see the bloody film ... it should make u think and re think what you strive for and what's important to you and why it's important and how perhaps YOU can give back.

In the meantime I think I need to find me a Dinka man.

Paricia Field - Oscar nominee?! I have seen the movie, but damn! From vogue.co.uk:

ON TRACK TO THE OSCARS
PATRICIA FIELD, world-famous stylist and Oscar nominee for her work on The Devil Wears Prada, knows exactly what she'll be wearing to the Academy Awards on February 25. "I'll wear a red gown by David Dalrymple, who works with me on my own label," said the designer, who is in London this week to style Jenny Packham's show (which will take place in Milan next week) - and will celebrate with a party in Wells Street tonight. "It's very subtle and the line just goes straight up and straight down." But she's not counting on winning a golden man - up against Marie Antoinette's Milena Canonero and The Queen's Consolata Boyle. "The president of the Costume Design Guild in LA said I'd be the first American to win the award since 1967," Field goes on. "So unless they decide to go American, I'm unlikely to get near the stage. I loved Marie Antoinette and Milena did brilliantly - plus Consolata really nailed it with Helen Mirren - so precise - so they both deserve to win. Besides, I dressed for the modern day in Prada so it might not be understood as costume design in the same way - though some say it is even more of a challenge to create a look from nothing. It was such a great experience to be involved with the film, either way. I got so many fashion people telling me that the film was nothing like the real-life industry but I just said, 'You guys are so dour. The idea was to satisfy the public's fantasy about fashion.' Of course it wasn't real. I was there to entertain and make things look beautiful. I wasn't making a documentary. Besides - could a writer really afford those shoes? Do you think Audrey Hepburn's character in Breakfast At Tiffany's could afford that Givenchy dress? It's about making the fantasy come alive on screen." (February 15 2007, AM)

Has anyone seen Factory Girl? I haven't and would like to see it. The guy who plays Warhol looks weird (but then again, he is playing Warhol). Also, they couldn't use Bob Dylan's name and likeness in case they were slapped with a lawsuit, they just call him "Musician" --Just give him a friggin' fake name for heaven's sake. I learned all that from the pappers, so I don't know if I believe that bit about the lawsuit, but I wouldn't be surprised.
