9 volume devloper?!! What's the use! For those of us with naturally black/dark brown hair, I can't imagine the shade lift with 9 volume. Give me minimum 30 anytime. I learned quite late that I'm a double process girl...
It isn't for lifting, it's for depositing color without drying out the hair shaft. For lifting on blue / black, dark brown hair you need a double process bleach for sure hon.
I actually had a bleaching question, does it matter which volume peroxide I use if I'm bleaching my hair twice anyway? Do the higher volume ones bleach faster, I've never really noticed...should I be using a lower volume? I use clairol's 2BW bleach by the way.
First of all if you are using Clairol's BW bleach be sure it is for on the scalp bleaching, secondly you can use 30 or 40 vol peroxide but the higher the volume the more damaging it is to the hair shaft even though it will lighter faster and higher. I almost always use 40 vol on my own because it really gets the red out. With toners it is better to use a 20 or even a 10 volume peroxide to set the color.
Ugh, dont even tell me about the "red", having naturally dark brown hair it always goes through a red phase, end even when it reaches the "blonde" phase it's sort of a reddish blonde! Not even a toner with a blue base can cancel it out...although it does become a satisfactory blonde eventually...when there's an inch of root showing!!!! You can't win, I tell you. Thanks for the advice though, will streak my hair this weekend...
