As per an e-mail forwarded to me by Mother Juan Aviance, the legendary Willi Ninja "is in the hospital and he's not doing well and may not make it to the weekend."
Willi recently stepped forward as yet another one of our most legendary ballroom figures living with HIV, lovingly referred to as "The Grandfather of Vogue." I've known Willi since I was barely legal and surviving at the West Side Highway piers as a hustler. They were just filming the documentary "Paris Is Burning" which would introduce the world to voguing and launch his career as a talented performer. Besides being amazing to watch on the dance floor, Willi Ninja remains one of the most beautiful and gifted souls of our community. He has reached so many people with his love and laughter. Willi was one of the very first people to support my dreams and ambitions as a writer and with the founding of the House of Xavier. Of course, I am simply one of many lives he has touched.
Please help pray for our brother. Please help send some positive energy to him and his family during this difficult period.

"There are Gods amongst us in these ghettos so black, so fierce, so brown, so beautiful, Their time on earth may be as oppressive as ignorance limited to the demons flowing in their blood but after safely passing over back to the clouds the wind will still carry their auras and prophecies their bones will still beat drums for their children to dance the phoenix will still rise from the flames of Paris with hope in womb" -taken from "Legendary"
these are the stories that prove we can all change lives by being who we really are. what poetry here we read that thrills so many of us on both sides of the veil. makes us remember others that have gone before.
beams to all, tho we met not in this life, we are all kindred souls.

Willi Ninja asked that this message be blogged and forwarded throughout cyberspace to dispel any unfortunate rumors about his passing.
Though he can only see silhouettes at this time and there is a possibility he may not be able to walk again, he is in very good spirits.
He has been moved to his own room with air conditioning and has been granted unlimited visitation rights. His many House children, friends and loved ones have been keeping him company, taking very good care of him, providing him with pedicures and massages and treating him like the true diva he is. Though he has already been in the hospital for three weeks, it is uncertain at this time how much longer he will have to remain hospitalized.
"The Godfather of Vogue" will hopefully make it through yet another battle. However, please keep Willi and his family in your thoughts and prayers. On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone who sent their love and positive energy his way. He means so much to so many people and it is beautiful to see how much he is truly loved.
Our lovely Miss Judy Vee wrote to me yesterday with some very sad news. Her wife, who was recently diagnosed with cancer has just passed away.
quote:
Just to let you know, my wife passed away last Thursday. I was surprised it went so quickly. She was at home, and I was with her when she went. I'm just trying to find some balance in my life right now. I'm sure it will take a little while, and I'm letting it take a while. If I'm up for it, I would love to get to the "Click and Drag" party coming up. Perhaps I'll see you there. Talk to you soon. Love, Judy
Judy has been a MOTHER regular for many years. She doesn't come out a lot, usually on state occasions like "Night Of A Thousand Stevies" etc. but when she does grace us, things always take a turn for the "magical" as many of you have experienced first hand. We wish her all the best and hope to see her soon.
