Last year we were flying home from New Orleans.
I looked out of the window and there was a big full moon shining down on the clouds below me.
It was very magical and the image stuck with me.
When we picked "Nightbirds" as the theme I knew EXACTLY what I wanted the invite to look like.
That magical moment.

THIS YEAR'S SHOW

NOTS 18: NIGHTBIRDS is subtitled THE ONES WHO SING AT NIGHT, and will take place against a midnight sky onstage, in shimmering faux-moonlight.

Our largest and highest NOTS stage EVER will host a record number of Enchanted performers this year, in three sets. The search is now on for this year's new performers, and debuts will include legendary firecracker MISTRESS FORMIKA (of WIGSTOCK fame), singer/songwriter ADAM JOSEPH and OUR LADY J. The evening features four "All-Stevie DJs" - longtime NOTS rockers CRAIG SPENCER and POISON EVE, DJ JOEL (Harrisburg, Pa) and NOTS newcomer SAMMY JO (SCISSOR SISTERS tour DJ and MOTHER alum). Enchantresses of Ceremony CHI CHI VALENTI and HATTIE HATHAWAY are also the show's producers, with JOHNNY DYNELL and THE JACKIE FACTORY NYC.

Inspired by the haunting STEVIE NICKS song NIGHTBIRD, NOTS 18 is dedicated to the memory of founding performer DEAN JOHNSON, who died under tragic and mysterious circumstances in late September, 2007.

A NOTE TO PERFORMERS

All performers who have played at NOTS in the past, let us know your intentions for this year as soon as possible. After we confirm your participation, look out for a separate email with more information about this year's theme and how we'd like to bring it through performance-wise. (We are still catching up on email, so expect a short delay.)

If you are a new performer who would like to apply to perform at NOTS 18, please email us now at events@jackiefactory.com and we will send you full instructions. If you are a new performer who has contacted us regarding NYC auditions, you will be hearing back in early February for times and place.

I too, am deeply honored... as always, to be among such talents! I can only aspire to add whatever I have to this event and, with everyone else... hope to make it an event/a night to remember.

I read somewhere this night would be dedicated to the memory of founding performer, DEAN... Well, I'm not sure the song "Fall From Grace", itself is an appropriate dedication, but I would love to dedicate my performance to HIM.

After all... those of us who return to NOTS year after year and, even those who attend for the first time, are doing no less than walking in the same footprints left by ALL of those who have been there before and are now only there in spirit. It is because of them that we are able to do this... and, as a wildhearted, warrior/poet and Timeless ~Angel of the Blue Lamp... I am compelled by my own destiny to honor each of them in everything I do regarding NOTS and The Blue Lamp Tour. There is that SPIRIT... timeless, unwavering... I wish each and everyone person who made these journeys could feel it too... the SPIRIT!

For one day, I shall follow them away...

I would like to say (expound upon) that I read more of who Dean Johnson was ..(since I am a newcomer) .. I wondered of him after reading that this was dedicated to him .. I see why "Nightbirds" now has such a special meaning - for you - for us all. My condolences immensely for you, Chi Chi, and Daddy, and who
were close to him. I understand that loss
(as I am sure some of us others do). As
my Enchanted Gypsy Lizzie spoke to me the
other day, saying, "We are the gypsies that
remain.." It is true.

I truly believe that we will surely see
a "pale shadow" tall.. slipping through
the crowds.. and maybe a little cackle
as I've heard he might've done ...
like a ghost through the fog... through
the dark shadows of the lace... just

With just under a month remaining till NOTS 18 opens its doors, production is in full swing here, the show's 25 songs have been chosen, and the excitement is growing. Here at NOTS headquarters, we hear the sounds of sewing machines and rustling ribbons more clearly than the cry of The Nightbird, but we know that will change as The Night 2008 grows nearer. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need to dress up like Stevie to gain admission?
No, but you will have a better time if you do - consult this year's suggestions below, or just throw on your best Stevie shawl or cloak. Boys - you have alot of options too - think Fleetwood Mac poet shirts and vests, or top hats!

What is the minimum age for entry?
You must be 18 to enter, 21 to drink. ID is now (sadly) required at the door of most city venues, so please bring yours even if you haven't been proofed in years!

Is there a walk-in box office this year?
Advance tickets can be purchased in person at The Highline Ballroom box office from noon till doors close every night, as well as online at their website

Can I take pictures or shoot video?
As a full-on fan event, we permit all cameras and flash. You may not bring additional light into the room (for video) without permission of the producers, nor come on or backstage. All other public areas are fine to shoot in - please ask permission of anyone you are shooting close up - its the polite thing to do.
