What clear, beautifully put writing - Wow!

One of my alltime favorite posts. But isn't Levittown the new Lisbon? So I'd heard.

Miss U. What a wonderfully poignant post!

Perhaps the so called "lull" in the scene is merely the calm before the storm.

All of the dumb fags that jumped on board because it was trendy to be a draggy/tranny/freaky/party thing have now stepped aside because it is too hard to get a piece of ass at the fag bar looking like a freak.

It is a great opportunity to see the true obscura who don't consider it an option, or simply can not conform.

It's time for: Clubland Rapture!

I'm laughing out loud in front of the monitor. What took you so long M. Understood? Now I know what your Bitch Threshold is. And I'm going to hold you responsible for the dry cleaning tab on my leather collar since you inspired Messy Bonnie Raitt to cum-stain it!

This is profound -

Princess Diandra and I are just about to leave Gothenburg Sweden and go to Prague. We worked in a small but lovely nightclub. The local freaks were living. So many people knew us from things we never pay much mind to: "Dragtime" an HBO documentary, "Wigstock the Movie", the book "Drag Queens of New York", etc. New york continues to influence the world. They even have a knockoff festival in Stockholm (don't tell Bunny, Scott, or their lawyer) called "Wig Stockholm".

... if only for these little festivals spawned by Wigstock. Imagine, a Wig Stockholm! And the incredible, mangled way it must be pronounced!

I've worked as stage manager for every Wigstock since 1989. It was great to have Wigstock back in Tompkins Square and I even liked the shorter format. Yeah okay, it's not like it used to be, but what is? We can't live in the past and shouldn't want to. And yes, maybe the afterparty at Webster Hall was lame, but the afterparty at Opaline with Sister Dimension and Linda Simpson was loads of fun!

Yes, there were some assholes backstage working security. It's a problem that should be brought up with the promoters. Hopefully next year it'll be better. On the other hand, the sound and stage people couldn't have been better. They were much more professional and helpful than the idiots who worked on Wigstock. At least no one had any temper tantrums and threatened to shut off the sound.

As far as Bunny's comments and old jokes go, let me just say this. I much prefer Bunny's misogynist idiocy to Penny Arcade's geezerly rants about the good old days of junkies during the Way the Fuck off Broadway segment. I mean really, nostalgia for junkies? Ridiculous.

Finally, for those who complained that the Howl Fest concentrated too much on the past. If they had only featured new talent a lot of people would have been like, "what about the rich heritage of this neighborhood? How could they forget about _______?!" Maybe there is room for improvement but I thought it was a good mix. All in all it was a fantastic event, pulling together elements from every part of the East Village.

(Penny Arcade rant mode)
And all of you who didn't like it, go back to Levittown! You're the people I came here to get away from! Why, back in my day, we had the real junkies here, not you fake whippersnappers pretending to be junkies! Dagnabbit! I remember when I used to have to take a taxi three blocks home from the Pyramid! Those were the good times!

I've been taking photos at Wigstock for many years. This year, there weren't as many wigs in the audience as there used to be. But I still had a good day with my friends. So if you'd like to see the results of my "soul snatching" just click here: http://www.DreamlandNews.com/jackson/
