THIS IS HOW WE DO

Here is a blow by blow of "Into The Deep".

First we come up with a theme and then the Empress writes a press release. An invitation and poster are designed (this was done by Mr. Willy from Crobar).

PEEPSHOW 4: INTO THE DEEP
Looking at the world with DAVID MORALES

PEEPSHOW is a new monthly collaboration between master DJ DAVID MORALES, nightclub producers CHI CHI VALENTI and JOHNNY DYNELL (THE JACKIE FACTORY) and host venue CROBAR. The first Saturday of the month, a thematic spectacle is created, drawing one of New York's most club-savvy and diverse audiences to the Chelsea pleasure palace. Valenti and Dynell have worked with Morales for over a decade - at their nightclub JACKIE 60 where Morales often guest DJed, on various special events and David's JACKIE 60 EXPERIENCE dance single GIMME LOVE. Together, they will continue to push the boundaries of nightclub entertainment with experiments in dance, performance, decor, music, lighting and multimedia.

The February PEEPSHOW explores the underwater world, with the club's main and Reed rooms tricked out like a giant undersea adventure peopled by mermaids, barracudas, sea monsters, bottom feeders, and the like. Ambient performances begin in the Reed Room at 11:30 and the Main Room at 1 AM, and continue till early morning to Morales' deep house soundtrack in the main, and Dynell's eclectic dancefloor in the Reed. Participants include members of the HOUSE OF DOMINATION, the female fetish performance group now resident at Jackie Factory events, the butoh troupe VANGELINE THEATRE, and dance fusion star MASHALA as KING NEPTUNE. So hold your breath as we go INTO THE DEEP.

Then we figure out the decor.
I go for a "Lost City Of Atlantis" set in the main room and an underwater wonderland in the Reed Room.

We build a ruined temple on stage using my old Jackie 60 trick of copy shop pillars and video projections. This is David's DJ booth. We will have 2 mermaids swimming on each side of him.

Here lighting genius Ian sets up 2 water projector lamps.

When the house lights go down, these pillars will have water reflections projected on them. They will look like they are underwater.

and maybe Neptune, King Of The Sea.

What? No Daddy slathered in suntain lotion, floatin in an innertube with a Mai Tai, and throwing handfuls of fishfood to the drownded dance throngs? I thought you studied up on Cecil B. Demil. Or at least Peewee Herman.

This is what I was seeing from my DJ Booth.
I didn't need no Mai Tai!

Which brings me to our little Reed Room.
I rented 6 water reflecting projectors and shined them on the reeds. We turned out all of the lights and just used these water projectors. Then we hung fish swimming though the reeds.

Display king Raul hung this see-through fabric in front of the go go boxes.

Turn out the lights and shine the water reflections on it.

Add a mermaid...

and it's an undersea adventure!

Mermaids gone wild!

And a merman.
