Day??? Try a Shutdown WEEK... for example, don't eat anything that came to you via a gasoline engine. Ha. We are a pathetic virus!
I think it is a good mental exercise for people who don't usually think about this stuff. But try only burning wood for heat, for example, which I've done for the last two months. Like most of the world does!
The cats were pretty pissed off at me at first but they just grew bigger fluffier coats.
I feel like a sick criminal everytime I go to the gas station.
Getting off the grid is something everyone should be required to do at least for a couple weeks once a year. You automatically feel more connected to the actual earth.
Not to mention the load of cash you save.

Remember during the blackout, August 2003 or was it 2004... the sense of peace over the city because there was no electric current jazzing us? I walked around Chelsea late at night and got the feeling of what the 19th century must have been like. CALMER.
I wish solar power on all of you!!! It's a true joy and a blessing from the heavens. But even with 340 sunny days a year out here, people are still scared shitless to cut the wires. Pussies. I know only two people with full solar systems totally off the grid.
Through all the snowstorms and overcast days I was never without some power during the day. A few times I had to go to bed at 7 PM because the system when plonk... and I still don't know how people read by candlelight!!! Maybe they used ten candles.
