Ok, I have to admit...
I didn't really push this party because I didn't know what it would be like.
Well, it was one the best parties I've been to in a long long time!
It really
was "old school" without trying to be.
Everybody knows how sad New York is right now and one of the biggest cliches is "I want to bring nightlife back", "Like it was back in the day". They try to recreate the Mudd Club, Danceteria, Area or the Tunnel, sound Factory or even Pyramid, Jackie 60 and Boy Bar. (It depends on what "back in the day" they were a part of).
The best parties, of course, are the ones like the Mr. Black parties that are of their time but ARE as good as the old school parties.
This party was that.
This group of friends got Haine (a genius BTW) to give them the basement Lucky Cheng's.
They went in and painted, decorated and hung red lights etc.
It reminded me of when we took over (what eventually came to be known as "The Versailles Room" at Mother). We called it "The Brown Room" and painted it deep poop brown, hung Macramé owls and batik wall hangings and hung red light bulbs. It was retarded as some of you may remember but so much fun.
This group of friends have a different sensibility. They are much less "Macramé owls" and more "Let's bring in the killer sound system from Crobar and put it in a room the size of a bedroom".
ROCKIN'!!!!!!
At 11PM I got a text from Mr. White and Roze saying that they were on their way.
"Alright, two people!" I thought.
We sat at a table and were quickly joined by my old "friend" Nick Scotti.
"OK, Now I can see where this night is going" I thought.
"When Christina Visca walked in I knew exactly where the night was going...
LEGENDS ONLY!
By midnight the room was filled with, let's just say, every color of the rainbow... (as well as Rainblow)!
And you know what color happens every time you put all the colors of the rainbow together...
It was so much fun.
(For all of you old timers...
think "Brownie's", "Save The Robots", "The 220 Club", the VIP room @ "Crisco Disco")
Mr. White and Roze, who I'm sure just stopped by to be polite and support were there til 4AM.
"Another cocktail Mr. White"? I would ask.
And Nick...
I think he is still there.
Anyway,
I'm not sure what the deal is with the future of this party but it has A LOT of potential.
Stay tuned.
