Looks like the crew at mr.Black in association with the amazing retards from Tubway have caved into pressure and have decided to start a new weekly Saturday night dance party. "the church sessions" has a stunning line up of old school and new school d.j's, plenty of dancefloor antics by the like of Xander, Milan, One-half Nelson and Roze, and of course plenty of shows by the most important element in nightlife- the patrons. So join us at Club Shelter, finally somewhere to go on Saturdays........ stay way past 4am for Timmy Regisford's legendary Shelter Party.
"TUBWAY" (for those of you who don't get the annoying text blasts) was the brilliant Sunday party at the now legendary MR. BLACK. It was one of my favorite parties ever. Named for (and I hope this isn't a secret) Harriet Tubman with a wink and a nod to the Underground Railroad that brought the freed slaves up north and the NYC underground trains that bring the Ball House kids down from The Bronx... Well, you have to picture what it's like inside Nita's brain to figure the name "TUBWAY" out.
Anyway, "TUBWAY" was Old School House & Garage Classics spun magnificently by drunken DJs Gant Johnson & Nita Aviance. There were MAJOR Voguing battles on the dance floor (also known as the runway) by the Houses of Aviance and the great House of Xtravaganza. Not since TRAX had there been a party that brought uptown and downtown together like that.
Every Sunday it was church for the kids (young and young at heart). Full on gospel DJ sets made perfect sense there. "TUBWAY" early will flow perfectly into Timmy's soulful party late. "The Church Sessions" are a great idea.
Amen indeed Daddy, it'll be interesting to see how 2 floors of Tubway mayhem will work, i for one don't know what to expect but if it is anything like Tubway during long weekends then it'll be popping....... Just confirmed as guest d,j's are the House Of Stank crew Christy Love and W.Jeremy, their Wednesday night at mr.Black always brought out the coolest of cats.

I was working at Daniel Nardicio's party and couldn't make it but the only bad thing I heard about last week was that it was too crowded and people had too much fun. How bad is THAT?!
Once you go Black... Let's just say, "She's Back!"
i discovered a website which had some fascinating things to say about the Tubway vibe..........
"Tubway is an experience in itself quite hard to describe. Although two of its residents DJ’s, Gant Johnson and Nita Aviance, are undeniably white, the party is drenched in black soul and driven by black house beats. Conceptual and irresistible, puzzling and mesmerizing, the strange energy which emanates from the speakers and permeates the minds of the dancers drives everyone into an odd frenzy. It causes, among the crowd, spontaneous outbreaks of voguing battles, riveting scenes of runway show-downs, sudden episodes of break dancing, and other cases of manic possession.
Hosted by the colorful Xander Aviance, Tubway is patronized by many children from the houses of Aviance and Xtravaganza. With so many creative spirits congregating in one room, it is hard to foresee what kind of turn the event may take.
The only sure thing is that the beats will be fierce, the mix will be bold, and the crowd eclectic. Only in New York! "
We didn't make it inside, either; it sounded fun from the ten minutes we spent waiting on the stairs. The gorgeousness that is Connie Girl greeted us outside. It was bit too much like being at the airport, frankly, but maybe we should have gotten there a bit earlier. The music we heard was MAJOR, but gotta admit that the crowds were somewhat suffocating for a couple of old queens who really just wanted to tango. Congrats to Mr. White, Nita, Xander and all.
So, we skipped out and headed to Michael T's new spot - also crowded (thankfully), everyone gloriously decked out (refreshingly); the new space is beautiful (though I can see how the party might outgrow the space). The best part was bumping into Michael Wakefield outside.
Mr.Joe, so sorry to hear the airport line was too long, it was a zoo but inside was a total blast, and strangely enough i thought i was in 1998 not 2008, don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, it was just insane. And yes darlin, not a great place for an old queen to tango, its just a down and dirty dance party plain and simple 8-)
below is a pic of the dancefloor..........

Actually, I'm thrilled you're all keeping it so fun and accessible in the tradition of Area, Twilo, Tunnel, etc. It's affirming to all of us who crave a fierce dance party.
We were a bit high on the Aretha Franklin show that night, and needed some fresh air (did I mention we were a couple of old queens?).

Thankyou Mr.Joe, yes 'fun' is the key, that little word seems to be forgotten about these days, everyone wants to be 'cool', sigh. My favorite part of the night was sending out Xander 'Zulu' to entertain the lineup, the shows were hysterical!
