No, but Ingrid told me that Northern New Jersey is the embroidery capitol of the world. There's a sign saying as much as you approach the Lincoln Tunnel.
As for your garden-ette, be sure you bundle her up. I have moved the rose and the geranium in already. Everything else can winter over outdoors.

i just can't find the space to move her in. i'll have to let them turn to compost and start fresh in the spring.
i like a new begining any way!

Let's get a garden. Can't we get a plot of community garden somewhere? (And get Hattie to do the work) You know what "The Empress" will plant!

that's a good idea daddy. if mark green becomes mayor he may let the communities keep their beloved green spaces. and what better place to space out?

Ive heard NJ is in fact the garden state - but I havent seen any evidence of it where I live. My little garden is singing an Alison Moyet cover of "How Winter Kills". The prayer plant, whats left of the Orchid, the 'thing with no name' are all inside.

does anyone know if its bad to keep plants on a radiator box? they dont seem to mind so far, but they need watering more (it doesnt get too hot, really)

saturday night 3 weeks ago i got a call asking me to fly home to michigan right away as my sister with cancer was about to pass on and wanted to see me.
i got my ticket and packed funeral clothes.
at midnight i went out for a drink and a bump, i missed the jackie show earlier that night and felt terrible.
ran into randella and got so drunk...
at 4 a.m. i opened my window and did a little gardening? dead-headed and put the window box in my bath tub.
i woke up at 12:30 p.m. just as i should have been ariving in michigan. once again i missed my flight and had a major hang over.
i'm still in michigan and will be here for a few more weeks minimum.

i wonder what the taxi drivers are doing for fun?

I guess I better not plant anything new though till the FEMA inspectors come to visit. But buds are everywhere it's true. And daffodils are open already down here, but I am farther south.

I saw a pot of Gardenias in the window of some Gristedes and wanted to purchase them. Unfortunately the last ones I tried to grow (from cuttings from the Gurney's catalog) never made it. Does anyone know anything about this plant, what kind of sun do they like, watering etc. and should I just skip the Gardenia from Gristedes and opt for Dreamery Ice Cream instead?

hey julian,

gardenias need a lot of humidity and bright but filtered light. they get the scale very easy and they don't like to be moved around much.
my parents have two plants that have been healthy for ten years
i don't know how they keep them alive.

I appreciate the gardenia advice... will try again to grow them summertime, but I think I'll search the plants out from more reputable dealers than Gristedes though. I'll get the ice cream from them instead.

Miss youXXX
Julian

i have to say that this years window box is simple.
i put 4 red geraniums and two veriegated ivy.
i woke up this morning and really enjoyed seeing nature so close to me.

it is such an easy way to start your day with some natural beauty.
i may add some tiny white groung cover although last year it died off in a few weeks.
