and that is why I don't look my age...
but in my own defense, I needed the eye job back then...not due to aging, but just unfortunate genetics.

So, seeing the other doctor was not what I had envisioned either, so time to step outside of my workplace and seek out consultations from other docs. At least I didn't leave devastated from this one, but he just said the same thing in a far nicer way- the whole thing about changing my nose won't look male, etc. He gave me the name of another plastic surgeon, so I called Nicholas Taball, who is a top nose doc on Park Ave, but his high falutin' secretary told me everything must be prepaid- $10,500- even with insurance paying for it (god bless the head and neck doctor who gave me exactly what I needed- his note states that I clearly need a septoplasty), so just need to find a doc who is willing to go with insurance, or someone to finance it.
"Sugar daddy, anywhere" she said, scanning the horizon...
Since I don't want to be beholden to anyone, back to the drawing board, so I have an appt with the doc who did my liposuction (also a Park Ave doctor, but not of the snotty kind)- just not sure of his rhinoplasty experience, but we will discuss. And I think I will seek out the opinion of a former doc from my work, who I know peripherally, but now he is of the type who does the society ladies, though he did one of my nurse colleagues breasts last year (and they look great), and he did do my friend Ashley's nose back when she was transitioning, so from what he said to her back then, he is familiar with the tranny set (just the ones paying full cash for his pricey work).

Has anybody caught this show recently, and it's otherworldly stars along with strange luminescent lighting? I did at the gym the other night...Surg Central! 'Tis the season....halloween scary!
Phyllis Diller- not bad for an aging comedienne who has been having work done since before Cher even considered it. She was pulled tight and covering up the scars with a Bo Derek cornrow wig...
Joan Rivers- ghoulish when her eyelash was glued to her lower lid in one episode so she couldn't blink properly
Gene Simmons- ok, put the make-up back on please, and the Elizabethan hairline is scary in that aging rock star way, but after years of hard partying, his face was creaseless...but not necessarily good
Susan Lucci- flawless and better than when she started on All My Children 32 years ago; she has ascribed to the philosophy of a a little here and there over time, and she has clearly had good work done (browlift & nose for sure and who knows what else). She looked radiant...

So, I saw the doctor who did my lipo yesterday after completion of my jury service, and I am set for Nov 22nd. Hard to believe after these weeks of angst and consternation on this subject that it will actually happen and in the not so distant future. Now, he got what I wanted done and actually pointed out some things I didn't notice on my nose that he will fix. Interesting how a "fine" nose can be dissected in appearance in all its faults. However, more interesting is what can be done to make it more aesthetically pleasing. I go back next week for him to officially put the scope up there and look around and take care of the details.
So by the time my nose has healed and all the swelling has gone down, it will be a new year!

I did my nose way back and actually my chin at the same time. I do suffer from Huge Greek Nose syndrome. It was fixed however, I lost a good portion of my sense of smell and the swelling took several months to go down. I was black and blue for several weeks thereafter. I think it was worth it, however don't get talked into fixing what aint broken. I knew of several girls in highschool who over did the nose thing and ended up looking like they had little marbles on the end of their thin noses. Sometimes, a little imperfection actually enhances one's appearance.
again just my $.02
For those saving them up the total might now be worth something.

Ok, I admit that I am fascinated by this show now, and I only see it when at the gym without the actual sound, as the talk and jokes are so inane, and I even thought so when I watched this show as a youth (though no surprise I lived for Paul Lynde in center square). *Qualificiation: I wouldn't watch this while at home*
Charo- cootchie cootchie has been supremely snatchied snatchied; she blinked twice during the whole show, and that must have been an effort
Lisa Ling- her nose is too perfect, and I look at everybody's now
Jackie Collins- now she looks great in that scary Upper East Side way, but her neck is just in time for Thanksgiving...gobble gobble
Ellen DeGeneres- even the makeup couldn't hide those bags under eyes...is this part of her lesbian-chic look?
Miss America- has she had something done? surely not her nose though...
From a societal perspective, the subliminal imagery- make yourself look better- is clear in my point of view. One of the commercials inbetween was of this clearly middle-aged woman, who looked great (eyelift and possibly a peel or two), but she said it was all due to Abolene (lardish makeup remover that Flotilla deBarge uses)...yeah right. And look at me, reading these peoples' looks and their possible surgeries, I fall right into the whole thing (for good and/or bad). We as a society are fascinated and fixated on appearances; for example, no other society has our gym culture where everyone strives to create these uber-fit bodies (to do what with?). Of course, the mass media just feeds this obsession we have (which in my opinion is an American trait, though ironically we have the most obese population as well). Also, look at the Real World show on MTV- those kids are amazing-looking (though they have their emotional baggage clearly), but a friend of mine shared with me that the casting directors are very frank with telling them (do your nose, lighten your hair, buff up the bod and then come back) what they need to improve before the show begins. Gotta look good for the cameras- is that reality?
I guess I have been thinking about this a lot as of late, since I am going to book my surgery this AM and am of course have a bit of anxiety...as I only want to do this once.

BOTOX...
This was the sign in the waiting room at the doctor's office on Friday morning, with a lovely woman smiling out at us, as if she was selling nail polish or a hand cream.
Thirty years ago, that sign would have been for an anxiolytic like valium...just in time for the holidays! A la the Calgon commericials of the 70s...just take me away. Now such advertising is for aesthetic procedures. The marketers (or marketeers) are telling us we have to look good, especially as we gear up for the holiday party season...cheers everybody.
Now Daddy, is there anything you want to fix? Join us the game of looking in the mirror and asking ourselves "now what is it that I want to fix?" Just a word of caution, it can be an addictive game to play though.
Mike, I think the brow lift is a conundrum...is that even if he does it endoscopicly? Are the scars worth the trade off? You could always wear a turban to cover them, you like those.
