It's that time again!
In a collaborative effort,
The Transgender Project
The Nowhere Bar &
The Girls of Lucky Stiffs
will hold it's 2nd clothing drive. This time to benefit The Ali Forney Center, a shelter for homeless Transgender, Gay, and Lesbian youth here in NYC. Our first clothing drive, for benefit Sylvia's Place, was a HUGE success and everyone had a fabulous time!
If you haven't already, most of us will be changing our seasonal closets over from nasty, cold winter, to beautiful Spring! And like most of us, you'll no doubt find things you'll never, ever wear again, or something you look at and have to ask yourself "what the hell was I thinking?" So the dilema, where to go with all the old stuff?
Why not put it back in your community where it is desperately needed?
Thursday, April 24at The Nowhere Bar we will hold our second clothing drive and swap. Swap? Here's how it works: You bring a bag of gently worn womens or mens clothing. If you see something you can't live without, you get to swap for 1 item. The idea is to leave with a whole lot fewer clothes than you came with--(which happens every now and then at Nowhere!)
As most of you are aware, the harsh reality of being Transgender and out can all too often be economic hardship. These kids have no place to live, little to eat, and less to wear. Your donations are greatly appreciated and this really is a good thing to do.
If you can't make the date, I am happy to accept your donations at my Ave A office. If you've already cleaned out the closet, and your items are now in the way, again, bring them to my office, Monday - Friday ( please phone ahead )
If you aren't in the NYC area, maybe you could be doing something like this where YOU live?
Thursday, April 24th

And of course, the regular weekly Thursday party at Nowhere will be in full swing!
