Since Lee's Mardis Grasis is no more, where does someone who might want to wear something like that find them?
I promised a friend I'd get them for her so if anyone out there knows please post it.

These subject headers flip me out! We visited Orchard Corset Center recently after i found and perused their website. Less pricey than Baumann's, FWIW (read, 'specially nice if one's goin' in lookin' for specific items). The proprietors seemed pleased to hear we'd also seen http://www.crepe-suzette.com which, from the looks of Orchard Corset Center's own site, was a must-see. Either might be worth a visit, if you're interested in mid-20th century style vintage foundation chic.

mhq - the subject header can be left blank when replying to a topic - we only make you fill it in when starting a new topic, or the topic wouldn't have a name...
Some people like to put their own little subject up there, so we left the field, but look how well this message works without one!

I highly recommend Nancy Ganz Shapewear (available at Macys) worn under a Vollers corset.

I recently got a very promising tip from a Broadway costume designer---use 1/4 " elastic in your corsets. It will get things tightly pack in and at the same time allow for breathing!
I will report results. Just picked up some elastic.

Rose, I'm sorry to be so late in responding. Vollers is a British company that makes very high quality corsets using very strong materials (soft but durable cloth, steel eyes for the lacing holes) and steel strips for boning. They provide excellent sizing help by e-mail or phone, and will also custom make one if you have trouble with their usual sizes. They have multiple standard models, including some with very short and very long torsos, so I highly recommend talking with them before ordering. I wear a corset at least 3 nights a week (alternating between 2), and a Vollers will usually last at least 3 years (3 * 52 / 2 = 78 wearings). Because I lace so tightly, the materal around the hips usually eventually rips. This lateral strain usually comes from dancing and getting in/out of taxis. Vollers corsets are expensive. The model I usually order is 120 British pounds (1 BP = approx $1.40, so approx $170). For a large girl like me, it's worth it, since those little rubber and latex corsets (like Frederick's) are just for show and don't hold anything in and they tear easily. Vollers URL is http://www.vollerscorset.co.uk/Always wear something (body shaper, slip, something) under a tightly laced corset to reduce friction and protect against skin rubs. If you lace very tightly, you can get some bad "burns" and skin ulcerations without protection. Breathing is another matter. Eventually, you just get used to it. Also, particularly if you are losing weight and wear your corset many hours daily for years, your body is eventually molded a bit around the waist into something more like an hourglass shape. Of course, most of us then just lace it that much tighter, so the pressure never really goes away.

Thanks Tina, I will look into these corsets. I've gotten a "Amazon Drygood" (listed above)one. They're imported from England too and are based on original Victorian models. They are in the same price range and provide that hour glass figure. My only complaint is that to get the hour glass effect they flare out below the waist. This is fine for the hips and butt, however if you're wearing anything that is fitting the front actually creates a tummy. Any comments? Suggestions? Rose -------------------------------------------------- I've just learned about these bras for those girls blessed with large mams who have support problems. They're more expensive but big titted women swear by their support capabilities: www.brasmyth.com*Their push-ups should provide extra clevage for the flat chested! ------------------------------------------------

Hi Rose, Once again, I find myself shamefully late in replying. I wish there was some sort of "alert" feature to tell me when there was a direct reply to one of my posts as soon as I hit the message boards. The Nancy Ganz shapewear (like a full slip made of spandex) helps some, but nothing beats old fashioned super spandex panties. The higher the spandex percentage the better. Usually they tuck right under the flare you referred to. If they're too long, I just pull them up over the bottom lip of the corset. Either way helps compress the pooch a little. I usually wear thigh high stockings except in the dead of winter in the North (it never gets that cold down here), so it's all very comfortable and easy access. Plus, with that much spandex, I don't have to bother with any special gaffing panties. Just tuck and go. But, and this is very important as you probably already know, if you're wearing bra and panties with a corset in between, you still need something under that corset to avoid those friction rubs and burns. Cutting the straps off an old sheer lacy camisole works wonders. Wear it like a tube top around your stomach. Soft but ultra-thin, it doesn't add a millimeter to your waistline, but provides great protection to your precious skin. Hugs, -- Tina

Rose, it seems a fix I've been thinking about for me, may help you. (Although I am in the season of the MerriWidow, and my corsets in the 'bag in the closet' at the moment ...)
Due to the hourglass shape of my body, big boobs, a proportionately-speaking much smaller waist, bottomed off with a big and bigger butt/growing beer gut ... the boning in corsets (if laced tightly to my body -- and what's the point of wearing one loose?) always curls up from the bottom completely away from the body after 2-3 hours - the boning just 'pops' as if it prefers to be U shaped and not straight on my body -> }{
once the boning bends, they are hopeless, and removing the boning is utterly useless, but retapering (resewing) the side boning backward (creating a /-shaped pleat almost) from the waist down would I think ... 1. pull the elastic/satin more taunt across the tummy 2. give the boning a more-desired direction to bend (and it always bends on me, nothing can contain me for long).
If you give it a whirl, let me know how it goes. And I will keep you posted likewise ...

I have to say that the information here has even enchanced my already growing fascination with corsets and corsetry. When I was little and I would draw "princesses" they would always have a corset complimenting what they were wearing. I'm not sure exactly where I first saw a corset...but it's always been one of the top things I'm going to incorperate in my looks both underneath the clothes (for functioning) and outer sometimes. I heard about Vollers Corsets through here and fell in love with the site. I have, however, discovered www.absolutecorsets.com which seems to offer some of the same exact models as Vollers (even has the same corset ID numbers as existing Vollers models) but sells them for much, much cheaper in certain models. They are in the States so you save yourself costly shipping and the help desk, faq section, and testimonials are uncomparible to any other site I've seen. Incredible. For a while I was unclear on what kind of model I would need (short waisted vs. long waisted) and all that was cleared when I went to the site. I seem to be long on legs, but moderate on ribcage to waist length. Either way...I am very happy to be placing my order in coming weeks and I will ofcourse be reporting on the results. For me a corset will make the difference from being shaped like a boy to being "statuesque" ...i can feel it!\ Any suggestions for padded hips - etc? Padding is completely foreign to me and I wouldn't know where to start. While I am more than okay in the ass department, I am a boy...and lack hips. Rose - I will for sure be seeing you soon - my house is having a national meeting in new york and I was invited so I will be seeing you again soon. I Miss you soooo much. It's different for everyone, but I think corseting gives you hips by bringing in your waist. Skinny bitches (like Fabian for those who know her) can use no corset and pad their hips to get the same effect. People always think I pad my hips, but I don't. I do use little booty pads though. Since I use layers (panty girdle, 2 pairs of Danskins) I need to reshape what the tights flatten.

wow - I would have thought that you padded because your figure has always been so on mark. My favourite "current" outfit of yours is the one you got made when you went to Thailand...the one with the corset design. I love that. Wow - That certainly gives me hope that maybe I do have natural hips in there somewhere and won't have to pad. Where did you get your corset? Yes - Fabian is sooo tiny. The couple of times I chatted with her at Cheez Wiz ::sniff:: I wanted to bite her out of jealousy because she was thinner than me. Miss U - since your hips are natural, I now am forced to believe that your eyebrows and florescent hair is too. What genes you must have! You must talk to the people at clonaid and get yourself cloned! I love ya.. Besos, Nicky Lazaro www.houseofdis.com.:the immaculate mr. n :.
